Project Kanimar is based in the Irular community on the East coast of Tamil Nadu. Aari embroidery is something a lot of people in the community practised since their childhood. Then they picked up hand needle style embroidery. What stands out in their work is their sea animal inspired motifs (yet to be featured). Presenting our opening series with their butterfly and chikku kolam motifs on purses. We are humbled to be launching this craft, the story of which is one of perseverance and survival.
